How to find your local external wall insulation installer

Undertaking any construction work in your home can be daunting and overwhelming. You’ve probably spent hours visualising the finished project and have set aside some serious money to make it happen. It’s essential to find competent and suitable people or team for your construction project.

Who should I hire? Does their company profile match my priorities?

In this day and age, we are becoming more aware of the eco aspects of our daily activity. It's no surprise that the construction industry is a massive consumer of raw materials and natural resources. The World Green Building Council estimates that the construction industry generates approximately 39% of the world’s carbon emissions. If sustainability is a priority for you, make sure you research several installers to make sure they fit within your ethos and values.

Have they completed similar project before?

Unless you’re on a mission to complete a one-off Grand Designs type of project, the likelihood is that you should be able to find a local installer near you. You might want to try an internet search or ask your friends and neighbours if they have had any works carried out recently. Asking your friends and neighbours for recommendations can be a reliable and helpful way to find trusted, local installers.

If you don’t have any leads, you can check who your local Government endorsed installers are by searching on Trustmark.

Does their availability work with my timeline?

Work out your ideal start and end dates to ensure your home isn’t a construction site for any particular celebrations you may want to host or work towards. It’s not unusual for good installers to be booked for months in advance, so don't delay in booking in your install even if you don't think you are quite ready yet.

Can I imagine working with them?

You’ll potentially be working in close proximity with the team so taking the time to find the right people or team is important. An in-person meeting can make all the difference when choosing your construction professionals as helpful as emails or phone consultations can be.

Are they insured?

Accidents happen, so make sure your team can deal with them appropriately.

Can I receive a Government grant or funding?

The UK Government have introduced the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) energy efficiency scheme to help tackle fuel poverty and help reduce carbon emissions. Energy suppliers are obligated to work closely with installers to introduce different insulation measures to homes. You may be eligible for Government grant or funding, find out more on our funding page.
